Unique Abilities Board

The board shall consist of five (5) members. The qualifications of the members are as follows: Board members shall be residents of the City, commercial landowners or business owners in the City, or individuals employed in businesses in the City for two or more years, and one (1) member shall be a social worker or mental health professional.

DUTIES

The Board shall serve as an advisory board and shall have the following duties:

1) To develop investigations, studies, reports and recommendations to the Cit Commission, the city manager, and the community, in respect to all matters pertaining to improving programs, services, equipment and facilities for persons with unique abilities.

2) To recommend or develop programs, asses demographic data, and create initiatives affecting persons with unique abilities in the City.

3) To make recommendations with respect to increasing awareness of issues of accessibility and inclusion with residents and businesses, and encourage activities by residents and businesses that may be supportive of persons with unique abilities.

4) Recommend to the City Commission and/or city manager ways to include individuals with unique abilities in celebrations of city and national holidays.

5) To make continuing studies with recommendations and reports of all city agencies, facilities, boards, services and programs dealing with or affective persons with unique abilities, including equal funding of such facilities, services and programs.

6) To appear before any governmental or non-governmental agency to present findings and recommendations on behalf of the board, as well as on behalf of the city with approval of the City Commission.

7) Submit an annual report to the city manager and City Commission. The report will cover education programs, sensitivity training, grants, interventions for persons in need, etc.
