  1. Project Introduction

The City of South Miami is developing a Parks and Recreation Master Plan to shape the future of parks, green spaces, and recreational programs across the community. This plan will serve as a strategic guide for enhancing existing facilities, identifying new opportunities, and ensuring that recreational services reflect the evolving needs of residents. With input from the public, the Master Plan will help prioritize investments, promote equitable access, and support a healthier, more connected South Miami for generations to come.

  1. What is a Parks and Recreation Master Plan?

A Parks and Recreation Master Plan is a comprehensive, long-term strategy that helps communities plan for the future of their parks, programs, and open spaces. It assesses current facilities and services, gathers community input, and outlines recommendations to improve recreational offerings, accessibility, and connectivity. By aligning community priorities with practical goals, the plan provides a roadmap for creating a more vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable parks and recreation system.

  1. Project Timeline

The planning process will take approximately 10 months. The schedule may be extended if additional public opportunities for feedback are needed. Adoption is targeted for 2026.

  1. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
  • Why is this plan happening now?

The City of South Miami is growing and evolving, and our parks and recreation system must keep pace. Many facilities are aging, community needs are shifting, and new opportunities for open space, programming, and connectivity are emerging. This plan ensures we invest wisely and equitably to support a vibrant, healthy, and active community now and in the future.

  • How are decisions made?

The Master Plan is guided by data, best practices, and—most importantly—community input. Feedback from residents, stakeholders, and city staff will be used to identify priorities and shape recommendations. The planning team will also assess current conditions, usage patterns, and service gaps to support informed, transparent decision-making.

  • Will my feedback really be used?

Yes. Public input is essential to the success of this plan. Comments from surveys, meetings, and community events will be carefully reviewed and directly incorporated into the recommendations. The plan is being built with the community, for the community.

  • What happens after the plan is complete?

Once finalized, the Master Plan will be used by City staff and leadership to guide future investments, funding decisions, and programming improvements. It will serve as a roadmap to help prioritize projects over the next 10–15 years and support grant applications and partnerships that bring the plan to life.
