Explorer Program

The South Miami Police Explorer Program is sponsored by the South Miami Police Department and chartered through the Learning for Life Organization. The program provides high school and college students an insight into a career in law enforcement.

The Police Explorer Program is under the administration of the patrol section and it’s supervised by specially selected police officers who serve as advisors.

The South Miami Police Explorer Program is known locally for its dedication to provide community service. The program is also known for its ability to improve student’s leadership skills and condition to produce future police officers.

South Miami Police Explorer achievements: 2010 Local Competition Champions, 2011 Local Competition (second place), 2011 F.A.P.E State of Florida competition (sixth place).

Qualifications
  • Have an interest in law enforcement
  • Must be a high school or college student age of 14 through 20 years of age
  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA or “C” average in academic and conduct grades
  • Good moral character
  • Pass an oral board interview

How to Become a Member

Joining is very simple. The explorer post meets every Wednesday from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Visit the Explorer Center and if you qualify, you will be given an application for membership. Bring a friend!
